1/3 cup butter 1 tsp. orange zest
3 oz. cream cheese, softened 1 pkg. orange cake mix
1 egg yolk ½ cup chp. walnuts or pecans
1 Tbl. orange juice 2 Tbl. dried basil
Blend together butter, cream cheese, egg yolk, and orange juice. Add dry cake mix and blend well. Stir in nuts, orange zest, and basil. Chill dough for 30 minutes or so. Form chilled dough into ½” balls and place on greased cookie sheet. Flatten each ball with a fork dipped in sugar. Bake in preheated 350 degrees oven for 10-15 minutes.
YIELD: 5 dozen (60 cookies)
NOTE: You can substitute 1 pkg. lemon cake mix, 1 Tbl. lemon juice, 1 tsp. lemon zest, and 2 Tbl. dried lemon verbena for the orange and basil ingredienst above.
