Pharmacy Garden

2025
Inspired by Madalene Hill

Madalene Hill’s dream of showcasing the world’s medicinal plants began in 1998, with Sally Isenberg and Tony Scanapico co-chairing the project. Sponsored by the McAshan family and over 200 contributors and volunteers, the garden came to life and was dedicated in 2001. Ceramic artist, Pat Johnson, of Fayetteville created the mural tile art at its entrance. Madalene Hill continued to work tirelessly in these gardens, sharing her immense knowledge of botany, folklore, and humor with all who came to visit.

Today, the Pioneer Unit continues the care and management of the Pharmacy Garden at Festival Hill. It is a wonderful place to smell, touch, and learn about the herbs that have shaped civilizations and their medicines.
