Gardens

The Pioneer Unit supports two different public gardens:

McAshan Herb Gardens

These gardens at Festival Hill in Round Top are an extensive array of plantings that feature herbs and ornamental plants in a variety of ways. The oldest gardens were planted in the early 1990’s by garden curator Madalene Hill. These gardens include the Mary Garden in the Cloister Garden, The Mediterranean Garden, and the Wall Gardens. Read More

Sensory Garden

This garden is part of the new outdoor classroom facility at Brenham Elementary and is designed as an aid to teach young children about nature and the senses we use to interact with it. It has raised beds that contain many plants, especially herbs, that relate to the five senses and will have many more interesting plantings as it continues to expand. Read More
